The Rose of Promise Gardens

Happy Rose Gardening!

It’s March 21 and time again as we prepare for our Rose & Garden Show 2020.  We are adding to the Rose Gardens this year with new beautiful selections, additional rose gardens and more.  Here are a few favorites from our past shows.

In our eyes, nothing is more beautiful than the blooms of roses and peonies…our favorites! So then, a few rose delights for the eyes and thoughts for the heart!

A White Rose

THE red rose whispers of passion,
And the white rose breathes of love;
O the red rose is a falcon,
And the white rose is a dove.

But I send you a cream-white rosebud
With a flush on its petal tips;
For the love that is purest and sweetest
Has a kiss of desire on the lips.

Spring Garden Design

Another Year! Beautiful new additions to the @PromiseGardens.  This post bears repeating!  We are excited for the gardening season as we see spring bulbs popping out of the ground and buds on flowering trees.  These colors are wonderful and helpful as we create the color for our design this year in our annuals and container gardening.  We like the pinks, purples, whites with various hues of light green for this year’s plan.  Looking at images of flowers, strolling through garden centers and perusing flower catalogs are a great way to create your spring garden palette.

Oh the Romance of Spring

We are waiting!!  Today it is 40+ degrees but we know the flowers will soon be forthcoming.  We are shopping for the new plants for the gardens, pruning the roses and chasing rabbits!  The squirrels devoured all the tulips in pots/planters — all 200 of them!!! With all of the snow, rain and wet weather, surely it will be glorious!!

How can one resist such beauty when we are surrounded by it? Isn’t it a romantic time of the year with the colors, aroma and romance of spring? We love spring and with everything popping out in the Promise Gardens, glory be, we are drinking in the beauty and will celebrate with garden tours, tea on the porch, glamorous photoshoots and candlelight dinners. Oh the Romance of Spring!

Blooming

In the Promise Gardens planning, we included many spring-flowering trees and plants: pear, apple, cherry, plum, lilacs, mock orange, azaleas, rhododendron and more. Pair them with spring bulbs and the show wins the season! In your garden plan, include flowering trees, plants and perennials for all seasons so you always have a gorgeous show of color from spring to winter!

Sensational Summer in the Gardens

It’s a beautiful day in the Promise Gardens as we get closer to fall foliage season. The blooms and color are fabulous and although we anticipate the beauty of fall foliage, we will dearly miss the glorious colors and blooms of spring and summer. We made several changes in the gardens this year and the new plantings and additions will be amazing next year. It is never too early to think about your 2020 gardens so plan now, grab up those 2019 garden products-decor on sale (I bought many items at 1/4 of the price! Happy Gardening! jacyjoypals

A sensitive plant in a garden grew,
And the young winds fed it with silver dew,
And it opened its fan-like leaves to the light,
and closed them beneath the kisses of night.
~Percy Bysshe Shelley,
“The Sensitive Plant,” 1820

Beloved and Beautiful Gardens

Awaken, O north wind, and come, O south wind.
Breathe on my garden, and spread the fragrance of its spices.
Let my beloved come into his garden and taste its choicest fruits.
Song of Solomon 4:16

The Promise Gardens remain so beautiful again this early September and will remain so until the “great leaf drop” from our Promise Gardens large historic and flowering trees. We love seeing the fall foliage in the gardens and historic trees but until they change for the autumn season we can still behold our beloved and beautiful Promise Gardens in their late flower show.

Happy Gardening,
JacyJoyPals

For the Love of Purple

…and lavender, orchid, pinks and lovely flowers in my garden.

At long last, I am assembling the images from the summer garden photoshoot. Spring and early summer flowers were stunning and then…the storm … so many of the gorgeous flowers including the historic hollyhocks were ripped from the ground; trees uprooted, broken and down so recovery is in process. These images from the early photoshoots remind me of the beauty of the gardens and how with a little more work this summer than usual, it will be restored to its early summer beauty. As new buds appear, later summer flowers bloom and God provides the wonderful rains from heaven, lovelies will soon appear again to our delight. @jacyjoypals #PromiseGardens #WinchesterVA #Repost

A Beautiful Ride with Flowers

As you might have guessed from my new banner, I have completed the garden bicycle and it is exactly what I anticipated it to be…simply lovely!  As I blogged on my design in earlier posts of “Promise Garden Color Guide” and “A Lovely Ride” the flower bicycle is a favorite focal point for the 2012 Rose & Flower Show with lots of exclamations of “wow” with praise and “I want one”!

A few notes:  My final decision was Turquoise as the color for the bike (see Color Guide link above) and Purple for the Herb Tricycle (photos forthcoming).  The flowers will grow out and cascade over the bicycle in several weeks which will enhance it even more.  I used many different annuals and perennials that trail, cascade and give an ever-blooming display.  Watch the blog for more on the bikes, trikes and potting tables.  The slideshow gallery for the 2012 Rose & Flower Show will be posted soon.   Be inspired to create and happy gardening!!
