Painting the Gardens with Awesome Eye Candy

Painting the Garden…It’s All About the Flowers

Update!  This summer has been beautiful with every color of the rainbow and what a great place to be during this Covid-19 season!  It’s is always difficult with confinement of any kind but the ability to spend time in your garden catching up on overdue chores has been a true blessing!  There is nothing like being in the gardens!

Flowers and color, where would we be without them in the garden?  We have the lovely greens of grass, trees and leafy plants and the varied blues of the sky as our backdrop so each year for the Promise Gardens Rose & Flower Show, we have every color/hue imaginable on display.  In our container gardening areas and special beds, we mix it up each year with new color combinations and plants to create “awesome eye-candy” for our visitors, friends, family and of course, our photography.  This is a special treat for me as a designer deciding what “new” and “old” creations I can design for a visual and aromatic feast.

A friend recently shared that their favorite part of visiting Promise Gardens was “just as I enter the gate area, the aroma of roses and flowers entice me in and then my eyes just take it all in and I swear each time I will recreate this myself at home so I can see and smell it all day long.”   Well, that is also one of my favorite things too!

Are you painting your garden?   “I perhaps owe having become a painter to flowers.”__Claude Monet

The Rose of Promise Gardens

Happy Rose Gardening!

It’s March 21 and time again as we prepare for our Rose & Garden Show 2020.  We are adding to the Rose Gardens this year with new beautiful selections, additional rose gardens and more.  Here are a few favorites from our past shows.

In our eyes, nothing is more beautiful than the blooms of roses and peonies…our favorites! So then, a few rose delights for the eyes and thoughts for the heart!

A White Rose

THE red rose whispers of passion,
And the white rose breathes of love;
O the red rose is a falcon,
And the white rose is a dove.

But I send you a cream-white rosebud
With a flush on its petal tips;
For the love that is purest and sweetest
Has a kiss of desire on the lips.

Spring Garden Design

Another Year! Beautiful new additions to the @PromiseGardens.  This post bears repeating!  We are excited for the gardening season as we see spring bulbs popping out of the ground and buds on flowering trees.  These colors are wonderful and helpful as we create the color for our design this year in our annuals and container gardening.  We like the pinks, purples, whites with various hues of light green for this year’s plan.  Looking at images of flowers, strolling through garden centers and perusing flower catalogs are a great way to create your spring garden palette.

Oh the Romance of Spring

We are waiting!!  Today it is 40+ degrees but we know the flowers will soon be forthcoming.  We are shopping for the new plants for the gardens, pruning the roses and chasing rabbits!  The squirrels devoured all the tulips in pots/planters — all 200 of them!!! With all of the snow, rain and wet weather, surely it will be glorious!!

How can one resist such beauty when we are surrounded by it? Isn’t it a romantic time of the year with the colors, aroma and romance of spring? We love spring and with everything popping out in the Promise Gardens, glory be, we are drinking in the beauty and will celebrate with garden tours, tea on the porch, glamorous photoshoots and candlelight dinners. Oh the Romance of Spring!

Blooming

In the Promise Gardens planning, we included many spring-flowering trees and plants: pear, apple, cherry, plum, lilacs, mock orange, azaleas, rhododendron and more. Pair them with spring bulbs and the show wins the season! In your garden plan, include flowering trees, plants and perennials for all seasons so you always have a gorgeous show of color from spring to winter!

A sensitive plant in a garden grew,
And the young winds fed it with silver dew,
And it opened its fan-like leaves to the light,
and closed them beneath the kisses of night.
~Percy Bysshe Shelley,
“The Sensitive Plant,” 1820
