It’s that time again and one of our favorite summer joys of putting together this year’s summer porch, its decor, pots and arbors of flowers and color-themed that becomes a favorite spot for entertaining. For 2016, we continued the white, aqua, teal and lime green theme. This year we added new clematis, coleus, creeping jenny filled pots, dahlia and more. A new aqua-cream chevron rug, aqua umbrella, aqua-lime placemats and colored pots finish off the design for 2016. The storyboard gives you a hint of the glory we enjoy every day from every view. Take advantage of the beauty we have and design a porch that reflects your love of creation in color and design and take it a step further and photograph it to enjoy prints in your home all year-long.

Wow, every year I am amazed at the natural beauty of the Promise Gardens in bloom. The colors this year are vibrant and the plants have taken on super-size (perhaps from our very cold, snowy winter) and I cannot bring enough cuttings indoors to enjoy in every room. Even with the many large walls of windows and glass doors, the views are spectacular from within, the aroma and close-up vases filled for indoors is a must too. How many ways can we adorn and show off the beauty of flowers in June? Here are several from my Promise Gardens that I designed and enjoy. Be encouraged to create beautiful vignettes for your garden too. Happy Gardening!
*** Indeed I feel as if I came too soon To round your young May moon And set the world a-gasping at my noon. Yet come I must. So here are strawberries Sun-flushed and sweet, as many as you please; And here are full-blown roses by the score, More roses, and yet more. _Christina G. Rossetti
…to summer. It is that time of year again where we begin to look forward to the beautiful foliage of Autumn and all that it brings to the gardens. Yes, there is much work to do in the Promise Gardens but the fall sheds its beauty and its colors light up day and night for its last hurrah before winter. It is a spectacular sight each year so we look forward to it with relish! The summer sunflowers are smiling because they know it draws near.

COME to me only with playthings now…
A picture of a singing woman with blue eyes
Standing at a fence of hollyhocks, poppies and sunflowers…
Or an old man I remember sitting with children telling stories
Of days that never happened anywhere in the world…
No more iron cold and real to handle,
Shaped for a drive straight ahead.
Bring me only beautiful useless things.
Only old home things touched at sunset in the quiet…
And at the window one day in summer
Yellow of the new crock of butter
Stood against the red of new climbing roses…
And the world was all playthings.*

And now it is late August and we are pinning away for missed days of sunshine frolic, garden-walking, flower-cutting, fruit-producing, scenes-adoring and soon the changing leaves and hues of late summer-early fall will be upon us. Where or where has it gone? We shall enjoy a few more weeks of garden bliss and flower pots of lovelies in the gardens and room-filled vases to behold them awhile longer.
~ ~ ~ ANGELS in the early morning May be seen the dews among, Stooping, plucking, smiling, flying: Do the buds to them belong?
Angels when the sun is hottest May be seen the sands among, Stooping, plucking, sighing, flying; Parched the flowers they bear along.*
Early morning mist, sun peeking through after days of rain showers and plants are loving every second of it. The porch garden loves the light and I love photographing the plants in their delight. Even the baby rabbits climb the large staircase to get to them for a nibble on the veggies and herbs even when they have their full in the Promise Gardens. Gardening is such a pleasure just for the pure enjoyment of it and diversion from busy schedules. Happy weekend my gardening friends and enjoy your garden labors at the table! xox
