February brings anticipation of spring as we see the bulbs begin to pop out from under the snow and ice and the promise of their soon arrival and spring lovelies. Planning garden designs brings anticipation of gardening again (not excluding spring cleanup) but the joy of seeing the growth of garden plants. Each year it is different, each year, more flowers, more color and the biennials always bring a lovely surprise. The snow in the gardens thus far this year have not been as heavy as usual but it’s still February so hoping after our damage from the two storms last year, we will be spared more. I hope your plans for spring gardening are underway. Time is getting close now and I am excited — I can almost smell those antique roses now!
As you might have guessed from my new banner, I have completed the garden bicycle and it is exactly what I anticipated it to be…simply lovely! As I blogged on my design in earlier posts of “Promise Garden Color Guide” and “A Lovely Ride” the flower bicycle is a favorite focal point for the 2012 Rose & Flower Show with lots of exclamations of “wow” with praise and “I want one”!
A few notes: My final decision was Turquoise as the color for the bike (see Color Guide link above) and Purple for the Herb Tricycle (photos forthcoming). The flowers will grow out and cascade over the bicycle in several weeks which will enhance it even more. I used many different annuals and perennials that trail, cascade and give an ever-blooming display. Watch the blog for more on the bikes, trikes and potting tables. The slideshow gallery for the 2012 Rose & Flower Show will be posted soon. Be inspired to create and happy gardening!!

Wonderful sights as the weather warms are bulbs, crocus and other early flowers popping out of the ground. We hear the birds very early now and of course, are overrun with rabbits and birds preparing their nests all througout the Promise Gardens. We planted new bulbs last fall and look forward to seeing them and the mulplied bulbs from years past. Lilacs are budding…we are excited as we wait the treasure trove of spring delights!
