“Any patch of sunlight in a wood will show you something about the sun which you could never get from reading books on astronomy. These pure and spontaneous pleasures are ‘patches of Godlight’ in the woods of our experience.” ― C.S. Lewis
The Virginia Arboretum is always a favorite place for photography in any season but especially in the Autumn season. Whether you photograph nature’s beauty in full display or create photographic abstracts from the season delights, it is a season of anticipation and satisfaction and completion with a treasure trove of beauty. @jacyjoypals
The most satisfying photography is that which captures the beauty of Creation in all of its glory in the gardens but also displayed so beautifully in art in the home. This is what photographers and artists that capture landscapes, florals and living things love most. We see it, love it, capture it, share it and then enjoy the art of it displayed. Thus it is in the Promise Gardens, beauty on display outdoors and beauty continued in the home. The photography below showcases favorites of roses-peonies created for a design palette in a huge “Art on Canvas” display that becomes the focal point of any interior design. The colors “POP” and draw the viewer into the room and sets a tranquil mood of beauty. _jacyjoypals

The Flowers by Robert Louis Stevenson
All the names I know from nurse:
Gardener’s garters, Shepherd’s purse,
Bachelor’s buttons, Lady’s smock,
And the Lady Hollyhock.
Fairy places, fairy things,
Fairy woods where the wild bee wings,
Tiny trees for tiny dames–
These must all be fairy names!
Tiny woods below whose boughs
Shady fairies weave a house;
Tiny tree-tops, rose or thyme,
Where the braver fairies climb!
Fair are grown-up people’s trees,
But the fairest woods are these;
Where, if I were not so tall,
I should live for good and all.

The Promise Garden is lighting up every day with flowering peonies and nothing makes our hearts happier than seeing this beautiful “smiling-at-us” yellow peony in full bloom. We call the yellow peony our “Happy Peony” because every time one blooms we burst out with joy and a huge smile. You can see why we love them so much. -Happy Gardening!
From Gardens to Table – Perfumed Land of Spring Lilacs
These beautiful trees are abundant in flowers and aroma and fill the house and gardens with luscious blooms and fragrant aroma. I am in awe of them as they brighten my Morning Room and smile as I now have eight lilac trees from the mother trees and soon will have a grove of them in my “Perfumed Land of Spring Lilacs.” Stunning describes them best when brought indoors to photograph and enjoy.

I, WHO fade with the lilacs And with the roses fade, Am sharing this hour with them Conferring in the shade.1 ~ ~ ~
It’s a beautiful morning in the Promise Gardens. After the rain the flowers and color are popping out all over. A walk through the gardens gives a beautiful scent of peonies, roses, the incredible citrus aroma of Mock Orange, rain and rich earth! What a little piece of heaven on earth. Come and take a “turn” in the garden with me and Christina…
“CONSIDER THE LILIES OF THE FIELD.”
Flowers preach to us if we will hear:– The rose saith in the dewy morn, I am most fair; Yet all my loveliness is born Upon a thorn. The poppy saith amid the corn: Let but my scarlet head appear And I am held in scorn; Yet juice of subtle virtue lies Within my cup of curious dyes. The lilies say: Behold how we Preach without words of purity. The violets whisper from the shade Which their own leaves have made: Men scent our fragrance on the air, Yet take no heed Of humble lessons we would read. But not alone the fairest flowers: The merest grass Along the roadside where we pass, Lichen and moss and sturdy weed, Tell of His love who sends the dew, The rain and sunshine too, To nourish one small seed. _Christina G.
