Good Morning Sunshine

It’s a beautiful morning in the Promise Gardens. After the rain the flowers and color are popping out all over. A walk through the gardens gives a beautiful scent of peonies, roses, the incredible citrus aroma of Mock Orange, rain and rich earth!  What a little piece of heaven on earth.  Come and take a “turn” in the garden with me and Christina…

“CONSIDER THE LILIES OF THE FIELD.”

Flowers preach to us if we will hear:–
The rose saith in the dewy morn,
I am most fair;
Yet all my loveliness is born
Upon a thorn.
The poppy saith amid the corn:
 Let but my scarlet head appear
And I am held in scorn;
Yet juice of subtle virtue lies
Within my cup of curious dyes.
The lilies say: Behold how we
Preach without words of purity.
The violets whisper from the shade
Which their own leaves have made:
Men scent our fragrance on the air,
Yet take no heed
Of humble lessons we would read.
But not alone the fairest flowers:
The merest grass
Along the roadside where we pass,
Lichen and moss and sturdy weed,
 Tell of His love who sends the dew,
The rain and sunshine too,
To nourish one small seed.
_Christina G. Rossetti

Oh the Romance of Spring

We are waiting!!  Today is 61 degrees…this means the flowers will soon be forthcoming.  We are shopping for the new plants for the gardens, pruning the roses and chasing rabbits!  The squirrels devoured all the tulips in pots/planters — all 200 of them!!! With all of the snow, rain and wet weather, surely it will be glorious!!

How can one resist such beauty when we are surrounded by it? Isn’t it a romantic time of the year with the colors, aroma and romance of spring? We love spring and with everything popping out in the Promise Gardens, glory be, we are drinking in the beauty and will celebrate with garden tours, tea on the porch, glamorous photoshoots and candlelight dinners. Oh the Romance of Spring!

Blooming

In the Promise Gardens planning, we included many spring-flowering trees and plants: pear, apple, cherry, plum, lilacs, mock orange, azaleas, rhododendron and more. Pair them with spring bulbs and the show wins the season! In your garden plan, include flowering trees, plants and perennials for all seasons so you always have a gorgeous show of color from spring to winter!

“IN the grey summer garden I shall find you
With day-break and the morning hills behind you.
There will be rain-wet roses; stir of wings;
And down the wood a thrush that wakes and sings.
Not from the past you’ll come, but from that deep
Where beauty murmurs to the soul asleep:
And I shall know the sense of life re-born
From dreams into the mystery of morn
Where gloom and brightness meet. And standing there
 Till that calm song is done, at last we’ll share
 The league-spread, quiring symphonies that are
Joy in the world, and peace, and dawn’s one star.”*

After the Rain – Rainbows

Wow, pure awesomeness.  After the rain, rainbows, two of them, maybe three?  Out to dinner and we look out of our restaurant window and lo and behold the rainbows had lit up the sky…totally beautiful.  I shot a quick shot with my handy-dandy iPhone and Camera Awesome* app for this cute shot.  The light pole in the middle of the image made an interesting contrast to the trees and rainbows.  So my friends, there is always light and rainbows after the rain and at the end of the day!

FYI: I love the textures and presets in the Camera Awesome* app for quick, fun and funky photos. I also use the “100 Cameras in One” and “Instagram apps.

Oh Paeonia…

JayJacy.com

“Love! thou art leading me from wintry cold,
 “Lady! thou leadest me to summer clime,
“And I must taste the blossoms that unfold
“In its ripe warmth this gracious morning time.”
 So said, his erewhile timid lips grew bold,
 And poesied with hers in dewy rhyme:
Great bliss was with them, and great happiness
Grew, like a lusty flower in June’s caress”
John Keats

This is the amazing Peony (Paeonia) which are now in full bloom in my gardens.  They are my favorite plant (flowers) and Rose my second favorite.  We have many in the Promise Gardens, over 30 Paeonia species of all types and colors.  I fear it will rain them away before the formal photographs are shot this week!  This is the newest and it was so large that had I known I might have entered into a “largest peony flower contest”) or something like that.  When it was ready to start losing its petals, I brought it indoors for a vase to enjoy  its last days.  The petals filled the desk and floor and the aroma perfumed the room!  As I walk the gardens and breathe their glorious aroma, I am transfixed and of course, John Keats poetry came to mind.   Isn’t it just “oh so lovely” and I wish I could share the aroma with you too!  x0x
