Cherry Blossoms, Gardening, Photography

Oh My Blossoms

Cherry, Pear, Apple and just about every other kind of blossom is filling up the gardens and popping out all over. Last night and this morning we had a deluge followed by amazing sunshine and it is just beautiful to behold. The grass is greening up and with popping out tulips, azaleas and other bulbs and flowering trees, I did not want to miss a Cherry Blossom post on the Promise Gardens. If you did not get into Washington, DC or surrounding areas to view those incredible blooms, remember you can capture them at many local gardens, parks and tree-lined streets. Take a walk with your camera and see what you can capture. It is an amazing time to capture this spring beauty!

Cherry Blossoms

And in the warm hedge grew lush eglantine,
Green cowbind and the moonlight-colour’d May,
And cherry-blossoms, and white cups whose wine
Was the bright dew yet drain’d not by the day;
And wild roses, and ivy serpentine,
With its dark buds and leaves wandering astray;
And flowers, azure, black, and streak’d with gold,
Fairer than any waken’d eyes behold. _B.Shelly

A Very Chic Summer Porch

It’s that time again and one of our favorite summer joys of putting together this year’s summer porch, its decor, pots and arbors of flowers and color-themed that becomes a favorite spot for entertaining.  For 2016, we continued the white, aqua, teal and lime green theme.  This year we added new clematis, coleus, creeping jenny filled pots, dahlia and more.  A new aqua-cream chevron rug, aqua umbrella, aqua-lime placemats and colored pots finish off the design for 2016.  The storyboard gives you a hint of the glory we enjoy every day from every view.  Take advantage of the beauty we have and design a porch that reflects your love of creation in color and design and take it a step further and photograph it to enjoy prints in your home all year-long.

O Love, O Wind, O Rose

jjytgrwrsvs600

The Promise Garden roses are in full bloom and the rain and sunshine has created such loveliness that no image can portray their beauty.  We have been out and about in the gardens photographing them for the studio and photography prints and a sneak peek will appear here soon on the blog.  There is surely nothing more beautiful that the rose and pair that with poetry, perfection!

The Rose & The Wind

DAWN
The Rose

WHEN, think you, comes the Wind,
The Wind that kisses me and is so kind?
Lo, how the Lily sleeps! her sleep is light;
Would I were like the Lily, pale and white!
Will the Wind come?

The Beech

Perchance for you too soon.

The Rose

If not, how could I live until the noon?
What, think you, Beech-tree, makes the Wind delay?
Why comes he not at breaking of the day?

The Beech

Hush, child, and, like the Lily, go to sleep.

The Rose

You know I cannot.

The Beech

Nay, then, do not weep.

(After a pause)

Your lover comes, be happy now, O Rose!
He softly through my bending branches goes.
Soon he shall come, and you shall feel his kiss.

The Rose

Already my flush’d heart grows faint with bliss;
Love, I have long’d for you through all the night.

The Wind

And I to kiss your petals warm and bright.

The Rose

Laugh round me, Love, and kiss me; it is well.
Nay, have no fear, the Lily will not tell.

MORNING
The Rose

’T was dawn when first you came; and now the sun
Shines brightly and the dews of dawn are done.
’T is well you take me so in your embrace;
But lay me back again into my place,
For I am worn, perhaps with bliss extreme.

The Wind

Nay, you must wake, Love, from this childish dream.

The Rose

’T is you, Love, who seem changed; your laugh is loud,
And ’neath your stormy kiss my head is bow’d
O Love, O Wind, a space will you not spare?

The Wind

Not while your petals are so soft and fair.

The Rose

My buds are blind with leaves, they cannot see,—
O Love, O Wind, will you not pity me?

EVENING
The Beech

O Wind, a word with you before you pass;
What did you to the Rose that on the grass
Broken she lies and pale, who lov’d you so?

The Wind

Roses must live and love, and winds must blow.*

Scenes of Garden Beauty

Wow, every year I am amazed at the natural beauty of the Promise Gardens in bloom. The colors this year are vibrant and the plants have taken on super-size (perhaps from our very cold, snowy winter) and I cannot bring enough cuttings indoors to enjoy in every room. Even with the many large walls of windows and glass doors, the views are spectacular from within, the aroma and close-up vases filled for indoors is a must too. How many ways can we adorn and show off the beauty of flowers in June?  Here are several from my Promise Gardens that I designed and enjoy.  Be encouraged to create beautiful vignettes for your garden too. Happy Gardening!

June
***

Indeed I feel as if I came too soon
To round your young May moon
And set the world a-gasping at my noon.
Yet come I must. So here are strawberries
Sun-flushed and sweet, as many as you please;
And here are full-blown roses by the score,
More roses, and yet more.

Good Morning Sunshine

It’s a beautiful morning in the Promise Gardens. After the rain the flowers and color are popping out all over. A walk through the gardens gives a beautiful scent of peonies, roses, the incredible citrus aroma of Mock Orange, rain and rich earth!  What a little piece of heaven on earth.  Come and take a “turn” in the garden with me and Christina…

“CONSIDER THE LILIES OF THE FIELD.”

Flowers preach to us if we will hear:–
The rose saith in the dewy morn,
I am most fair;
Yet all my loveliness is born
Upon a thorn.
The poppy saith amid the corn:
 Let but my scarlet head appear
And I am held in scorn;
Yet juice of subtle virtue lies
Within my cup of curious dyes.
The lilies say: Behold how we
Preach without words of purity.
The violets whisper from the shade
Which their own leaves have made:
Men scent our fragrance on the air,
Yet take no heed
Of humble lessons we would read.
But not alone the fairest flowers:
The merest grass
Along the roadside where we pass,
Lichen and moss and sturdy weed,
 Tell of His love who sends the dew,
The rain and sunshine too,
To nourish one small seed.

Snowfall in the Promise Gardens

The snow has fallen and created beautiful landscapes in the Promise Gardens. It’s beauty takes our breath away but like all horticulture and garden lovers, the heavy wet snow has already taken its toll this early in season. Last night in below freezing temps we had to upright some of the evergreen trees and add additional support. Some of the older large trees will need to come down. Snow on the trees is beautiful but also damaging. We are enjoying capturing the beauty while it lasts. The birds however are delighted to munch on the berries so brightly showing on the white snow!

If you have snow take a walk but watch out for falling snow, branches and trees! See more of our snow images at our JayJacy blog.
